Kristi Noem’s Bag Is Stolen With Security Badge and $3000, A handbag belonging to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, which contained her passport, department security badge, and $3,000 in cash, was stolen on Sunday night at a Washington restaurant, according to confirmation from the department.
Ms. Noem also addressed the theft during the White House Easter Egg Roll on Monday morning.
While the department didn’t provide further details, it confirmed the information reported by CNN, which indicated that the bag also contained her driver’s license, medication, apartment keys, and blank checks.
“The entire family, including her children and grandchildren, was visiting,” the department stated in an email. “The cash was meant to cover expenses for family dinners, activities, and Easter gifts.”
On Monday, the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington referred inquiries to the Secret Service, which then directed them back to Homeland Security.
